This standing Buddha image, 1.78 m in total height, stands together with the remains of a stone lantern at the former site of Heungcheonsa Temple in Pungyang-myeon, Yecheon-gun, North Gyeongsang Province. Atop the head is a large topknot-shaped hair bun, and the face is full and rounded. The shoulders are rounded and the chest is rendered with a sense of volume. The right hand hangs down while the left is held at the chest, and the gentle standing posture reveals outstanding craftsmanship. Retaining strongly the tradition of Silla Buddhist sculpture, this work is valued as a precious example for studying the regional styles of Buddhist images of that period.
