Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building enshrines Jo Tae-jing, who served as magistrate of Gwacheon during the Joseon dynasty, and is an annex of Namsansa Shrine. It was built in 1770, the 46th year of King Yeongjo, and was used as a village school. According to the "Heunghakdang-gi," a record hung inside the building, it was established so that the Pungyang Jo clan could lecture on scholarship and diligently keep it flourishing, and it is said that the sound of reading filled the village. The building has a ㄷ-shaped floor plan, with a six-bay wooden-floored hall at the centre flanked by five-bay rooms on either side, giving it the character of a residential house. Overall it presents a plain and dignified appearance.
