Na Man-gap Spirit-path Stele
나만갑선생신도비 · 羅萬甲先生神道碑

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stele records the life and achievements of Na Man-gap (羅萬甲, 1592–1642), a civil official of the reign of King Injo of Joseon. His clan seat was Anjeong and his pen name was Gupo. He retired to the countryside after the incident in which Queen Dowager Inmok was confined to the Western Palace. When the Second Manchu Invasion broke out in 1636, the fourteenth year of King Injo, he went alone into Namhansanseong Fortress, and as gwanhyangsa, an official in charge of provisions, he rendered great service in supplying army rations. The stele is in the square-based, roof-capped style, in which a square pedestal supports the stele body, the section bearing the inscription, topped with a stone carved in the shape of a roof. The inscription was composed by Kim Sang-heon and written out by Song Jun-gil, while the seal-script title, the section carving the stele's name in seal script, was written by Kim Su-hang. The text records the subject's lineage, his youth, his official career, his social and scholarly associations, and the state of his descendants. The stele was erected in 1658, the ninth year of King Hyojong.
