Standing Gwarip-ri Stone Buddha
과립리석불입상 · 科笠里石佛立像
Provincial Tangible Heritage

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA temple was built on this site during the reign of King Jeongjong of Joseon, but is said to have burned down in the Imjin War (the Japanese invasions of Korea, 1592–98). This Buddha statue was newly assembled and restored from the head and pedestal of a statue that had survived at the temple site. The head is shaven, topped with a large topknot-shaped hair bun in two tiers. The square face has gently closed eyes, and the ears hang down long to the chin. Standing about 5.5m in total height, this large stone Buddha is presumed, on the basis of its carving technique, to be a work of the late Unified Silla period.
