This statue, now on display at the Woljeongsa Temple Museum of Buddhist Art, is a seated wooden Shakyamuni Buddha. Its original location was Bukdaegounam Hermitage, and a votive inscription written in ink, together with a huryeongtong (a sacred container placed inside a Buddhist statue) and other votive objects found inside the statue, show that it was made in 1710 by three sculptors including Gwangseup. As not only its date of production, sculptors and original enshrinement site are clearly known, but it also shows a distinctive method of drapery and characteristic robe folds, this statue is highly valued as important material for research on this lineage of Buddhist statues, and it has therefore been designated a Gangwon State Tangible Cultural Heritage and preserved accordingly. The wooden seated Shakyamuni Buddha has thick, tightly carved snail-shell curls of hair; the usnisha is not separately modelled, but there is a central crown jewel and a topknot jewel. The nearly square face has a calm, expressionless look, with the head tilted slightly forward and the gaze directed downward. The short neck gives the shoulders a hunched appearance, and the flat chest and narrow knees are distinctive features. Above the chest, the sash of the inner garment runs horizontally, and the upper edge of the inner garment is gathered in folds. Both hands rest on the knees: the right hand forms the earth-touching gesture symbolising the Buddha's defeat of Mara, while the left hand, palm upward, joins the thumb and middle finger. The robe, covering both shoulders and lightly draping over the right one, is thick enough to reveal almost none of the body's contours, and an open W-shaped fold gathers in front of the abdomen.
