This Buddha statue stands in Uiyang-ri, Chunyang-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The face is solid and dignified, and the body survives in an almost complete state. The figure is somewhat plump, giving an overall impression of softness. The right hand rests on the thigh while the left hand is raised to the chest with the palm turned inward, a hand gesture occasionally seen on standing stone Buddhas of Silla. The robe covering both shoulders forms a U-shaped fold at the middle of the chest, running down both legs to finish at the ankles. Although the details, posture, style of drapery and sense of volume still show a strong Silla tradition, the forms have become somewhat loose and stylised. The statue is thought to have been made around the 10th century, at the end of Silla and the beginning of Goryeo, and is regarded as an outstanding work of its period.
