Seated Unheungsa Temple Wooden Amitabha Bul and Votive Objects
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This wooden Buddha image originally stood at Sinheungsa Temple in Samcheok. On 14 July 1994, for the safe preservation of the cultural heritage of this branch temple, it was moved from Sinheungsa Temple in Samcheok to Woljeongsa Temple in Pyeongchang County, and it is currently on display in the Seongbo Museum. Although no original dedicatory text recording the statue's creation was found among the votive objects placed inside this seated Buddha image, it is notable that the find included a regilding dedicatory text that allows the approximate date of production to be estimated, together with fascicle one of the Lotus Sutra with its frontispiece illustration, and a huryeongtong, a sacred container placed inside Buddhist statues. The regilding dedicatory text records that this seated image is an Amitabha Buddha made by the monk-sculptors Hong-an and Singyeom, and that it was regilded in 1791 at Banyaam Hermitage of Unheungsa Temple and enshrined at Daesa, presumed to refer to Unheungsa Temple itself.
