창원 성주사 대웅전 · 昌原 聖住寺 大雄殿

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krSeongjusa Temple was founded in 835, the tenth year of King Heungdeok of Unified Silla, by State Preceptor Muyeom; its name means "a temple where a sage dwells". The temple burned down during the Japanese invasions of 1592, was rebuilt in 1681, the seventh year of King Sukjong, and underwent major repairs in 1817, the seventeenth year of King Sunjo. The Daeungjeon Hall of Seongjusa Temple, the main hall enshrining the Buddha, dates from the late Joseon period. It measures three bays across the front and two bays along the side, and has a matbae roof — a gable roof whose side profile forms the shape of the Chinese character 人 (person).
