Buryeongsa Temple Three-story Stone Pagoda
불영사삼층석탑 · 佛影寺三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a three-story stone pagoda standing within Buryeongsa Temple, consisting of a three-story body raised on a two-tier base and topped with a finial. Corner and central pillar shapes are carved on each face of the upper and lower tiers of the base. The body of the pagoda is built with a single stone for each body stone and roof stone, and pillar shapes are neatly carved at the corners of each face of the body stones. The roof stones have four-stepped supports on their undersides, and the eaves run horizontal before curving slightly upward at the four corners. At the top, above the noban (a flat base for the finial) sit the bokbal (an ornament shaped like an inverted bowl) and the anghwa (an ornament shaped like a fully bloomed lotus), completing the finial. Though modest in scale, the pagoda achieves an overall, even balance, and on the basis of the carving technique of the base and the form of the roof stones, it is presumed to be a work of the early Goryeo period.
