Chamdangam Hermitage Bronze Bell
참당암동종 · 懺堂庵銅鐘

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a Joseon-period bronze bell with a mouth diameter of 50 cm, located inside Daeungjeon Hall of Chamdangam Hermitage at Seonunsa Temple. The yongnyu, the dragon-shaped loop by which the bell is hung, takes the form of a dragon crouching with its four legs pressed against the bell. Around the shoulder runs a band of circles, within each of which a Sanskrit character is carved in relief. Above this, standing bodhisattva images framed by rectangular borders are cast on four sides of the body, and between them square-shaped yugwak (nipple panels) are arranged. The borders of the yugwak are decorated with a comb-tooth pattern, and inside each are four flower-shaped yudu (nipples). Below the bodhisattva images, two thick bands encircle the bell at a distance from one another, and between them an inscription panel is cast, somewhat irregularly placed. Around the mouth of the bell a comb-tooth pattern is carved.
