Eungseoksa Temple is said to have first been founded in the Silla period, and is also a place that the eminent monks Muhak, Naong and Jigong are said to have passed through at the end of the Goryeo period. The ridge-beam inscription (sangnyangmun) of the Daeungjeon Hall records that it was rebuilt in 1736, the twelfth year of King Yeongjo, and again in 1899, the third year of the Gwangmu era. The Daeungjeon Hall of Eungseoksa Temple, which enshrines Sakyamuni Buddha, is a single-storey building measuring three kan (a traditional unit of a bay between columns) across the front and two kan along the side. Its roof is a hipped-and-gabled paljak roof, whose side profile forms the shape of the character 八, and it is built in the dapo style, with decorative bracket sets (gongpo) placed not only atop the columns but also between them. The columns have a slight entasis (baeheullim).
