A wangji is a document recording a royal command or communication for delivery to its intended recipient. This wangji was issued in 1414, the fourteenth year of King Taejong, to An Seong (pen name Cheongok, ?–1421), who was widely known as a cheongbaengni, an official celebrated for incorruptibility. It measures 41.5 cm wide and 43 cm high. An Seong was a civil official active at the end of Goryeo and the beginning of Joseon. He passed the state civil examination in 1380, the sixth year of King U, and made his name as a Jikhaksa (academician) of Bomungak and as magistrate of Sangju. In 1393, the second year of King Taejo, he was chosen as a cheongbaengni, and he went on to hold posts including Jibosaju, Chamjieuijeongbusa, and Governor of Gangwon Province. After his death he was enshrined at Changgye Seowon in Jangsu, and was given the posthumous title Sagan. This wangji is preserved in Eopilgak, a pavilion built in 1752, the twenty-seventh year of King Yeongjo.
