Iyonghwabaekseyeongsucheop

This is a folding-screen album granting an official post to Yi Yong-hwa in 1865, the second year of Emperor Gojong, to celebrate his having passed the age of one hundred. It consists of two volumes, upper and lower, and is not of great antiquity. Along with the honorary post of Jijungchubusa, a senior sinecure in the Jungchubu (Privy Council), bestowed on Yi Yong-hwa for having passed his hundredth year, the album contains poems and writings in the hands of 108 senior officials and court ministers. The upper volume comprises 60 leaves and measures 50 cm in width by 35.5 cm in height; the lower volume comprises 62 leaves and measures 50.2 cm in width by 34.8 cm in height. This folding-screen album is extremely rare as an official appointment certificate granted to a person who had passed the age of one hundred, and since the congratulatory poems and writings are mostly by well-known figures, it is valued as a masterpiece of both composition and calligraphy.
