Omidongdorim Lecture Hall
오미동도림강당 · 五美洞道林講堂

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the lecture hall attached to Chuwonsa Shrine, which enshrines the spirit tablets of the Joseon-period scholar Kim Dae-hyeon, known by his pen name Yuyeondang, and his eight sons; Kim was active during the reign of King Seonjo (r. 1567–1608). The lecture hall was built in 1805, the fifth year of King Sunjo, and the shrine was built the following year. The lecture hall has five bays across the front and two bays to the side, ten bays in all; the central six bays have wooden flooring, with underfloor-heated rooms on either side. The building has an unusual roof structure: gable roofs, whose side profile resembles the character 人, meet at right angles at both ends of a central gable roof, together forming an overall I-shaped ridge line. Chuwonsa Shrine stands on a raised platform to the rear right of the lecture hall; it is a building of three bays across the front and three bays to the side with a gable roof, following the conventional form of a shrine.
