This is the place where county magistrate Park Su-geun discussed scholarship with his younger brothers. It was built in 1710, the 36th year of King Sukjong of Joseon. It measures three kan across the front and two kan to the side, with a hip-and-gable roof whose profile resembles the Chinese character for "eight" (八). The floor is raised 1.2 m above the ground; of the three front bays, the leftmost bay and the right-hand corner were fitted out as ondol (heated) rooms, with the rest forming a raised, wooden-floored hall (daecheong). Round pillars stand on cornerstones set on two-tiered plinths. Simple balustrades encircle the building on all four sides, and the windows and doors of the ondol rooms are neatly fitted. Sarodang Hall is a typical byeoldang (a detached hall for study or guests), distinguished by its high-set floor.
