Jonghakdang Hall began when Yun Sun-geo (pen name Dongto, 1596–1668) founded a clan school in 1625, the third year of King Injo, to educate the children of his lineage and clan. In 1628, the sixth year of King Injo, the school took on its full form with the construction of Baengnokdang, a seven-kan hall with front and rear extensions used for advanced study, and Jeongsuru, a two-storey, seven-kan pavilion; the two buildings were together inscribed with the name "Oga Baengnok". Later, in 1645, the 23rd year of King Injo, Yun Sun-geo and Yun Won-geo together drew up the clan compact. The original buildings stood at Yubong, but were later moved to a bunam, a memorial hut built near an ancestral grave for mourning rites. The present buildings of Jonghakdang were newly built by Yun Jeong-gyu, a fifth-generation descendant of Yun Seon-geo. They survived through several rounds of repair thereafter, and in 1999 underwent a large-scale restoration to their original form, bringing them to their present state.
