These are the woodblocks carved to print the Hwaljaeseonsaengmunjip, the collected works of Yi Gu (1613–1654), a Neo-Confucian scholar and eighth-generation descendant of Grand Prince Hyoryeong. The Hwaljaeseonsaengmunjip contains poems, rhyme-prose, letters, memorials to the throne and appendices, and 140 woodblocks were carved for it. Its contents show a deep knowledge of Neo-Confucianism, together with his commentaries on history and his writings on astronomy and the calendrical system. The printed collection itself also survives complete, in eight volumes bound into four books.
