Seated Bonghwa Ojeon-ri Stone Amitabha Buddha
봉화오전리석조아미타여래좌상 · 奉化梧田里石造阿彌陀如來坐像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis seated stone Buddha stands in Ojeon-ri, Murya-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do; only the head is missing, and it otherwise survives almost intact. It has broad, dignified shoulders, a sturdy chest and a slender waist. The left hand rests on the knee, while the tip of the right hand points downward. The thin robe, draped over the left shoulder only, clings closely to the body to give a sense of realism, and its folds are rendered as parallel, stepped ridges. The pedestal on which it sits is composed of upper, middle and lower tiers; the upper and lower tiers are carved with elaborate lotus petals, and the octagonal middle tier has standing figures of the Four Heavenly Kings carved in relief on each face. It is a typical stone Buddha of the late Silla period and appears to be closely related to the stone Buddha images at Buseoksa Temple.
