Erected in April 1598, this is a memorial stele praising the virtue of Patrol General Gye Geum. Patrol General Gye Geum was a naval commander of Zhejiang Province in Ming China who, during the Imjin War, the Japanese invasions of Korea, landed here at Ocheon (Chungcheong Naval Headquarters) leading 3,000 naval troops, then moved on to Jeolla Province to subjugate the Japanese forces. The inscription praises the general's virtue and prays for the swift defeat of the Japanese invaders, invoking the general's authority to pray for peace at sea. As a stele marking the point where the Ming navy landed during the Imjin War, and offering a glimpse of the folk customs of the time, it is of considerable value; the inscription was composed by An Dae-jin.
