Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA spirit-path stele records the lifetime achievements of a king or a high official and is erected to the southeast of his tomb; this stele records the career of the early Joseon-period civil official So Se-yang (1486-1562). So Se-yang became a jinsa, a literary licentiate, in the 10th year of Yeonsangun's reign (1504), and passed the higher civil service examination in the fourth year of King Jungjong (1509) to enter government service. He held posts including jikjehak, a senior scholar-official post in the Hongmungwan, and Deputy Royal Secretary in the Seungjeongwon, the Royal Secretariat. He resigned during the reign of King Injong when impeached by the faction of Yun Im, but was reappointed after King Myeongjong's accession and rose as far as Jwachanseong, Left State Councillor. The stele consists of a stele body set on a low square base stone and topped with a roof stone; the upper surface of the base stone is decorated with a carved lotus-flower pattern.
