Dongheon refers to the main building of a former government office (gwana) where official business was conducted. The Yeonpung Dongheon is said to have been first built in 1663, the fourth year of King Hyeonjong, by the local magistrate Seong Hui-wi. The building standing today was newly erected to the south in 1766, the forty-second year of King Yeongjo, when the magistrate Yi Deok-bu replaced the earlier, decayed building and named it Pungnakeon. From 1920 it served as the building of Yeonpung Common School, and in 1972 it was moved to its present site, where it is now managed by Yeonpung Elementary School. It measures five kan (structural bays) across the front and three kan along the side, with a hip-and-gable (paljak) roof whose side profile resembles the character 八. The bracket sets (gongpo) fitted at the tops of the columns to support the eaves are carved in the ikgong style, shaped like a bird's wings.
