This collection is held at Jungnimsa Temple, which enshrines Yi Su (pen name Sim-eun, 1374-1430), a civil official of the reign of King Taejong of Joseon. It comprises 17 items in 91 pieces of historical documents, including calligraphy albums and letters related to Yi Su, materials concerning his detached ancestral shrine (bujomyo, a shrine granted the privilege of perpetual enshrinement) and the founding of Jungnimsa Temple, and deeds recording the sale of paddy and dry fields. Yi Su passed the munkwa civil service examination at the age of 41 and went on to serve as Daejehak (Chief Scholar) of Yemunkwan, the Office of Royal Decrees, and as Minister of Personnel. His posthumous title was Munjeong. Jungnimsa Temple was founded in 1590, the 23rd year of King Seonjo, by Confucian scholars of the Honam region in Jungnimdong, Jinwon-hyeon, but was burned down during the Jeongyu War, the second phase of the Japanese invasions of 1597, and was rebuilt in 1814, the 14th year of King Sunjo. It was later damaged in 1868, the fifth year of Emperor Gojong, and restored again in 1947.
