Andong Samsanjeong Pavilion
안동삼산정 · 安東三山亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a pavilion built around 1750, the 26th year of King Yeongjo of Joseon, by Yu Jeong-won (1702-1761), where he refined his scholarship and taught younger students. Today it is used by his descendants to honour his virtuous conduct and to teach their own children. Yu Jeong-won was a scholar-official of King Yeongjo's reign who held posts including Suchan of the Hongmungwan and Gyori of the Saganwon, rising to the position of Daesagan, Chief Censor. With the favour of King Yeongjo and on the recommendation of Chae Je-gong, he also lectured to Crown Prince Jangheon. While serving as a local magistrate, he governed the people with benevolent rule, and his achievements are recorded in Jeong Yak-yong's Mongminsimseo (Admonitions on Governing the People). He left behind many writings, including the Yeokhaechamgo. The building measures three bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a hip-and-gable roof whose side profile forms the shape of the Chinese character for "eight" (八).
