Gangik Gaeammunjip Woodblocks
강익 개암문집 목판

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are woodblocks made to widely print the literary collection of Gang Ik (pen name Gaeam, 1523–?). Gang Ik was a disciple of Nammyeong Jo Sik; he passed the jinsa licentiate examination in 1549, the fourth year of King Myeongjong, and in 1566, the 21st year of King Myeongjong, submitted a memorial to the throne seeking to restore the honour of Jeong Yeo-chang. Throughout his life he devoted himself to scholarship and the training of younger students, and he is enshrined at Namgyeseowon Confucian Academy. The work consists of one volume in two parts: the first part contains poems, letters, records and a supplementary appendix, while the second part contains a genealogy, a chronological biography, a conduct record, and memorial texts. The preface was written by Jeong Ji-yun in 1706, the 32nd year of King Sukjong, but the printing records show that the woodblocks had already been carved in 1686, the 12th year of King Sukjong. Because the supplementary appendix of this collection contains three sijo poems composed by Gang Ik, it is a valuable resource for the study of sijo.
