Gaesimsamyeongcheongdongeunipsa Temple Incense Burner
개심사명청동은입사향완 · 開心寺銘靑銅銀入絲香완
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krIn this incense burner, the body and the base are made as separate, detachable pieces. It is a well-proportioned and beautiful Goryeo-period incense burner whose height is close to the diameter of its mouth, and its accomplished silver-inlay technique gives it fine pictorial quality besides. An inscription on the rim of the mouth identifies precisely both the temple for which it was cast, Gaesimsa Temple, and the donor, a person named Hyeonmun. With its beautiful decoration of lotus-scroll design and upward- and downward-facing lotus petals, and its well-balanced form, it is an outstanding work of Buddhist art of great value from both a religious and an art-historical point of view.
