Wolrok Village School
월록서당 · 月麓書堂

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a seodang, a village school, built to educate and train future scholars. It is said that Jo Un-do, pen name Wolha (1718–1796), proposed the idea, and that the Hanyang Jo, Yaseong Jeong and Hamyang Oh clans took the lead in building it in 1773, the 49th year of King Yeongjo of Joseon. It is a single-row building of four bays across the front and two bays to the side, set in a quiet spot with a fine view, making it a good place for study. The central two bays are floored as a wooden-floored hall, with rooms to either side; the room on the right bears a plaque reading "Geukbokjae" and the one on the left "Jonseongjae". Set in a place of scenic beauty, the building preserves well the architectural style of the late Joseon period.
