These are the printing woodblocks made to publish the Choneunjip, the poetry collection of the Joseon scholar Yu Hui-gyeong (1545–1636), who was active in the reign of King Injo. Yu Hui-gyeong was a poet of the early Joseon period and a disciple of Nam Eon-gyeong. He was especially well versed in funerary rites, and was consulted not only on state funerals but also on the funerals of commoners. When the Japanese invasions broke out in 1592, the twenty-fifth year of King Seonjo, he also raised a militia to assist the government troops. The Choneunjip is his collected writings, containing poems, songs, biographical accounts, and grave-stone inscriptions and epitaphs, genres belonging to Sino-Korean literary prose; it runs to three volumes bound in two books, and fifty-two woodblocks were carved for it. It was edited and compiled by Yu Hui-gyeong's grandson Yu Ja-uk, with a preface added by Kim Chang-hyeop, and these are the blocks with which Yu Hui-gyeong's great-grandson Yu Tae-ung had the work republished at Yongmunsa Temple in Namhae. After the passage of nearly three hundred years, some of the blocks have rotted or worn away; as a source on the funerary rites of the Joseon period, this loss is especially regrettable from the standpoint of cultural heritage.
