Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis book is a compilation of the sermons that the eminent Chinese monk of the Southern Song dynasty, Bogak Seonsa, delivered over more than forty years. It was compiled with a postscript by Yi Saek in 1387, the 13th year of King U of Goryeo, and reprinted in 1531. It was printed again as a woodblock edition in 1568 at Cheongwansa Temple in Jangheung, Jeollado, and remains in excellent condition. The title given at the head of the book is "Daehye Bogakseonsaseo". Written on traditional hanji paper, its contents are arranged in the order of replies to hwadu, Zen meditation questions, followed by a colophon recording the printing and a list of donors, running to 228 pages. It is said that State Preceptor Bojo Jinul of Goryeo attained enlightenment upon reading this text, and it is still used as a textbook in monastic seminaries today. This book is not only more than 430 years old but also extremely rare, giving it very high value as a piece of tangible cultural heritage.
