Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese printing blocks were carved in the sixteenth year of King Yeongjo (1740) for the collected works of An Chuk (1287-1348), a late-Goryeo civil official and the author of the vernacular verses Gwandong Byeolgok and Jugye Byeolgok. An Chuk was a civil official of the late Goryeo period and one of the newly risen Confucian scholar-officials who built up influence in his home district of Sunheung, present-day Punggi, before advancing to the central government; a man of outstanding talent, he applied himself diligently to scholarship. After passing the higher civil examination he held a succession of official posts. His son-in-law Jeong Yang-saeng first had An Chuk's Gwandong Wajujip printed at Cheongju in the fourteenth year of Goryeo King Gongmin (1365); his grandson An Sung-seon later edited and arranged the writings not yet included, and had them printed from woodblocks in the twenty-seventh year of King Sejong (1445). This collection was originally printed and kept in Jeju Island, then moved to Naju for safekeeping, but over the long passage of time it was lost. In 1909, An Chuk's descendants living in Uiryeong and Haman, finding that a long time had passed since the Geunjaejip had last been printed, had it printed in complete form at Haman in the summer of 1910. This Geunjaejip was published in four volumes bound as two books, with a colophon added by An Yu-sang.
