Jeongmugong O Jeongbang (1522-1625), Cheonpagong O Sang (1614-1672), and Chungjeonggong O Duin (1624-1689) were noted scholars of the Haeju O clan, and this is the venerable site that produced them. Deokbong village, where Anseong Jeongmugong O Jeongbang Historic House stands, brings together the royally chartered Deokbong Seowon, O Jeongbang's house, and the graves of the clan, and so displays the history of the Haeju O clan. According to records left by O Haek, O Jeongbang's grandson, the house was first built in 1510 by O Hyeon-gyeong, the clan's founding ancestor in Deokbong-ri, and was moved to its present site in 1650. The name plaque "Toejeondang", bearing O Jeongbang's pen name, hung in the sarangchae (men's quarters), is said to have been carved in 1662 in the calligraphy of Song Si-yeol. The house is laid out with the gate quarters at the front, the main quarters and the men's quarters joined together behind it as a single building, and a shrine set apart behind the men's quarters within its own separate wall. The date and circumstances of the house's construction are well documented, and although its original sixteenth-century form does not survive intact, the timber is finely finished, and the veranda windows of the main quarters and the loft above the kitchen show a high level of woodworking skill. The practice, seen in the men's quarters, of chamfering the pillars to an octagonal section also appears in the men's quarters of the historic house of the Eumaegong branch of the Hansan Yi clan in Yongin, and can be regarded as a feature shared by houses of a similar period in the surrounding region.
