Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese woodblocks were carved to print the Gansong Munjip, the collected literary works of Jo Im-do (1585–1664) — a scholar of King Injo's reign in Joseon who used the pen name Gansongdang — together with the Geumnajeonsillok, a record of local history. Jo Im-do was so devoted to his parents that he was called Baekhyo. Shortly after the Injo Restoration he served as an assistant section chief in the Ministry of Works, but soon gave up office and returned to his hometown to devote himself to scholarship. The Gansong Munjip was published in 1744, the twentieth year of King Yeongjo, while the Geumnajeonsillok, which records the history of Haman and the achievements of figures from Haman, including General Yi Bang-sil, a loyal subject of the late Goryeo period, was published in 1813, the thirteenth year of King Sunjo. The woodblocks measure 44.5 cm by 21.5 cm, and a total of 190 blocks are kept at Hapgangjeong Pavilion.
