Bongjeongsa Temple Three-story Stone Pagoda
봉정사삼층석탑 · 鳳停寺三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a three-story stone pagoda standing within the precincts of Geungnakjeon Hall at Bongjeongsa Temple. It has the typical form of such pagodas: a two-tier platform forms the base, above which sit the three-storey body and a finial. Pillar shapes are carved at the corners and centre of each face of the upper and lower platform tiers. The body of the pagoda, narrower than the platform, is made up of a body stone at each storey that decreases moderately in size toward the top, while showing little change in width. The roof stones, too, are narrow relative to their height and are thick. Only part of the finial remains at the top. Given the marked stylisation seen in each part and the thickness of the roof stones, the pagoda is presumed to be a work of the Goryeo period.
