The Shakyamuni Buddha Triad of Eunjeoksa Temple is a wooden Buddhist statue made in 1629, the seventh year of King Injo, by the monk-artisan Sujong, and it has since been regilded. It is currently enshrined in the Daeungjeon Hall, with the Shakyamuni Buddha at the centre flanked by Samantabhadra Bodhisattva on the right and Manjushri Bodhisattva on the left. Each of the three statues is about 114 cm tall, placing them among the larger Buddhist statues of their type. The central Shakyamuni Buddha sits in the full lotus position on a wooden pedestal, with the hands forming the bhumisparsha mudra (earth-touching gesture). The head has tightly curled hair and a low ushnisha, the cranial protuberance. The face is square, with gentle eyes and mouth typical of Buddhist statues of the Joseon period. Over the full, well-rounded shoulders is draped a robe covering both shoulders, with part of the right arm left exposed. The Samantabhadra and Manjushri bodhisattva statues that flank the Buddha are identical in every respect except for the position of the hands and the rendering of the celestial robe. The Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, the attendant on the right, sits in the full lotus position on a wooden pedestal and is relatively ornate for a bodhisattva statue of the late Joseon period. It wears a crown that flares outward at the top, beneath which hang crown-strap ornaments, simple yet refined in form, and in its hand it holds an unopened lotus bud. The Manjushri Bodhisattva, the attendant on the left, has the position of its hands reversed so as to be symmetrical with the Samantabhadra Bodhisattva across the central Shakyamuni Buddha.
