Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krUnheungsa Temple in Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, holds a total of 194 woodblocks covering 16 titles of Buddhist texts. These woodblocks were carved between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries and comprise Mahayana sutras and texts related to Buddhist ritual. Among them, the Amitabha Sutra, the fundamental scripture of Pure Land belief, is a reprint faithfully re-carved and republished in 1702, the twenty-eighth year of King Sukjong, from an edition originally published in 1464, the tenth year of King Sejo, by the Directorate for the Publication of Buddhist Scriptures. Almost all of the blocks are preserved intact, making them valuable material for understanding the woodblock printing culture of late Joseon temples and the standing of Unheungsa Temple.
