KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

These Buddhist scripture printing woodblocks are held at Ssanggyesa Temple in Hadong County, South Gyeongsang Province, and comprise 1,743 blocks across 33 titles in total. Ssanggyesa Temple holds the largest collection of such woodblocks after Haeinsa Temple. The woodblocks were carved from records made by disciples who received the teachings of the Sixth Patriarch, Great Master Hyeonneung, and constitute the only surviving copy in Korea. Although the exact year of publication is unknown, they are presumed to have been printed around 1603, the 36th year of King Seonjo. Most were printed at Neungin-am Hermitage, a branch temple of Ssanggyesa, and later moved to Ssanggyesa Temple, though some were printed at the main temple itself, along with collections of monks' writings.
