Originally located at the site of Uisangam Hermitage, halfway up Jeamsan Mountain in Jangheung-eup, Jangheung County, Jeollanam-do, the statue has been housed at Borimsa Temple since 1994. The halo behind the body and the neck area show some damage, but the statue is otherwise in good condition overall. Above the bare head, a topknot-shaped coil of hair rises high, and the face is oval in shape. The robe covers both shoulders and forms U-shaped folds up to the chest. The folds of the robe draped over both arms form wave-like pleats that hang down as far as the knees. Given that the thumb and index finger of the right hand are touching, the statue appears to represent Amitabha Buddha. The gentle, rounded face, the high coil of hair, and the folds of the robe across the upper body suggest that the statue was made in the late ninth century, during the Unified Silla period.
