Borimsa Temple Four Guardian Kings Sang Votive Geumgangbanyaron
보림사사천왕상복장금강반야론 · 寶林寺四天王像腹藏金剛般若論

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is one of the votive objects (bokjang, items sealed inside a Buddhist statue at its consecration) that had been placed inside a Statue of the Four Heavenly Kings at Borimsa Temple, in Bongdeok-ri, Yuchi-myeon, Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do. The Geumgangbanyaron is a scripture that elaborates on the Diamond Sutra (Geumgang(banya baramil)gyeong). The Diamond Sutra is often called for short the "Geumganggyeong", and in Korea it is the scripture most widely read after the Heart Sutra. This text originally formed part of the Goryeo Tripitaka, and this particular edition appears to have been printed separately in the early Joseon period. No record survives specifically of its Joseon-period printing, but records do show that the original woodblocks were carved at the Daejangdogam, the office established in 1236 to produce the Haeinsa Tripitaka.
