Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is one of the relics that had been placed inside the Four Guardian Kings statues at Borimsa Temple, in Bongdeok-ri, Yuchi-myeon, Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do. The Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment (Daebanggwangwongaksudararyoeuigyeong), also known in short as the Wongakgyeong, was adopted as a subject in the training of Korean Buddhist monks and serves as a guide to Buddhist practice. In Korea, the Goryeo monk Jinul devoted himself deeply to this sutra, after which it came to be called the Yoeuigyeong and grew greatly in popularity. It consists of one volume in twelve chapters, each chapter recording a dialogue between Sakyamuni Buddha and one of twelve bodhisattvas. Although no record of its printing survives for this copy, it is presumed to be from the same edition as the Sangji-geumni Daebanggwangwongaksudararyoeuigyeong, Volumes 1 and 2 (Treasure No. 753), printed at Sinheungsa Temple on Jirisan Mountain in 1564.
