Girimsa Temple Three-story Stone Pagoda
기림사삼층석탑 · 祇林寺三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a stone pagoda with a three-storey body raised on a two-tiered platform, its overall form surviving in relatively complete condition. Today only part of the lower platform tier remains, while the upper tier has pillar shapes carved at its corners and centre. Pillar shapes are likewise carved at the corners of each storey of the body. The roof stones have gently sloping eaves that turn up slightly at the four corners, with four-stepped eaves supports cut into their undersides. Notably, the finial at the very top - comprising a flat base plate, an inverted-bowl-shaped ornament and an ornament in the form of a fully-open lotus - survives in complete form. Overall the pagoda follows the general style of Unified Silla stone pagodas, but the reduction of the carved central pillar on the platform from two to one, together with the four-tiered eaves supports, suggest that it dates from the late Unified Silla period.
