Designated a Tangible Cultural Heritage of Jeonbuk State, the Seated Mireugam Hermitage Stone Buddha stands at a site believed to have been the location of a hermitage called Sugunam in the late Joseon period. It is said that in 1910 a hermitage called Mireugam was built on the original site of the stone Buddha, and that it was rebuilt in the 1980s. The Daeungjeon Hall was completely destroyed by fire in 2011, but the Buddha is now housed under a protective shelter. The head has a large usnisa (topknot) and is nearly bald, the face is round and broad, and the eyes, nose and mouth are so worn that their details are unclear. The neck bears the three curved lines (samdo) traditionally marking a Buddha's neck, and the halo is of the boat-shaped, full-body type, presumed to have been large and broad, though the section above the abdomen is now lost. The remaining halo shows three carved lines of sacred light, with flame patterns carved along its outer edge. The outer robe, worn in the Ashoka-style covering both shoulders, forms a large U-shape below the chest, with small oval folds repeated over both legs before ending at the ankles, below which the hem of the inner skirt is visible. The pedestal consists of a round lotus carved atop a square base stone. Both hands are brought together at the abdomen, but they are so worn that the hand gesture cannot be clearly identified.
