This large Buddha, standing 4.6 m tall, is carved unfinished on a rock face of Maseoksan Mountain in Naenam-myeon, Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. Atop the bald head is a large, round topknot-shaped hair bun, and the ears hang down long. The expressionless round face is clearly carved with half-open eyes, a large nose and firmly closed lips. The neck bears three thick incised lines (samdo), and the robe draped over both shoulders is unfinished, with only three tiered folds appearing at the left wrist. The right hand faces palm-forward with the fingers pointing upward, while the left hand also faces palm-forward but with the fingers all pointing downward. The full shoulders and slender waist show an overall attempt to convey a well-rounded body. For reasons unknown, work appears to have been abandoned partway through, but the completed parts of the face and body indicate that it is a work of the Unified Silla period.
