Dogang Kim Clan Hundogong Branch Lineage Historical Documents
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

These are eight historical documents — four royal appointment certificates (gyoji), three appointment certificates (gyocheop) and one property-division document (bunjaegi) — of the Dogang Kim clan, who resided for generations in the Gohyeonnae area of Taein-hyeon (present-day Chilbo-myeon, Jeongeup), North Jeolla Province. They comprise the certificates and appointment papers of four men: Hui-yun, eldest son of Yun-son, who held the post of sajeong (a military office) and was the great-great-grandson of Kim Hoe-ryeon, posthumously honoured as Chungmingong, a merit subject of the founding of Joseon; Yak-hoe, Hui-yun's eldest son; Won, Yak-hoe's son; and Gwan, son of Dae-rip, Won's third son — together with the property-division document of Lady Jeong, wife of Kim Hui-yun. Spanning five generations, from the late fifteenth century (1495) to the early seventeenth century (1615), these documents form important material for the study of the civil-service examination and official appointment system, as well as the economic history, of the early Joseon period.
