Dojugwan was the government guest house of Cheongdo-gun in the Joseon period; Cheongdo-gun was also known as "Doju". Within the guest house complex there is a jeongcheong, the hall where the local magistrate bowed on the first and fifteenth day of each month before a tablet symbolising the king, together with lodging quarters where officials dispatched from the central government or foreign envoys could stay overnight. It is thought to have been built in 1670, a gyeongin year, during the reign of King Hyeonjong of Joseon. The jeongcheong was later used as the office of Hwayang-myeon, and its floor and walls were altered as a result, but the rest of the building retains its original appearance. On the site of the former government office, the Dongheon, the hall where local administrative affairs and civil lawsuits were handled, survives, and in front of this building stands a stele commemorating the good governance of successive magistrates. There is also a Cheokhwabi, a stele inscribed during the reign of Emperor Gojong (r. 1863-1907) by the Daewongun, the regent, to express his determination to reject foreign incursion.
