Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are woodblocks carved for the collected poetry and prose of Min Jeong-jung (1628–1692), pen name Nobong, a Joseon scholar-official who served during the reign of King Sukjong. The blocks were carved in 1784, the eighth year of King Jeongjo's reign, and 298 of them survive today. Min Jeong-jung was a disciple of Song Si-yeol. He placed first in the state civil service examination in 1649, the year King Hyojong took the throne, and went on to hold posts including Jeonjeok of the Seonggyungwan, Jwarang of the Ministry of Rites, Suchan of the Hongmungwan, and secret royal inspector in various provinces. He later served as Daesaseong of the Seonggyungwan, Vice Minister of Personnel, and Right and Left State Councillor. When the Southerners faction came to power in the Gisa Hwanguk purge of 1689, he was stripped of his offices along with other members of the Noron faction, exiled to Byeokdong, and died there. After his death his spirit tablet was enshrined in several Confucian academies, and he was given the posthumous title 'Munchung'. Although a few of the woodblocks have been lost, the surviving set is valuable for its early date and good state of preservation. It is currently kept at Yeongok Seowon in Jangheung, South Jeolla Province.
