Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krSeonsangaeksa Temple was a guest house where officials dispatched from the central government, or foreign envoys, would lodge; the date of its construction is unknown. It was originally one of the buildings of the Seonsan guest-house complex that stood near what is now Seonsan Elementary School, and according to the Dongguk yeoji seungnam the complex included the halls Namgwan, Bukgwan, Cheonghoeru and Yangsoru. From 1914 to 1984 it was used as the office of Seonsan-eup, and in 1986 it was designated a North Gyeongsang Province tangible heritage, a status it retains today. It is a single-storey building of five bays across the front and four bays deep, with a hipped-and-gabled roof whose gable ends take the shape of the character for "eight." A porch was built in the centre bay of the front, and flower-shaped brackets were placed between the pillars, carved with a goblin's face on the front and a dog and an elephant on the left and right sides. Figures of lions were also set on the ridge of the roof. Seonsangaeksa is unusual for decoration of a kind rarely seen on other guest-house buildings.
