Juseomuilpyeon Folding Screen of Beopjusa Temple, Boeun
보은 법주사 주서무일편 병풍 · 報恩 法住寺 周書無逸篇 屛風

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Juseomuilpyeon Folding Screen is a screen made by transcribing the 'Wuyi' ("No Ease") chapter of the Zhou Documents section of the Classic of History, known as Juseomuilpyeon. Since the screen bears no record of its date of production or of the calligrapher, these cannot be known in detail, but it is presumed to have been made before 1758, the thirty-fourth year of King Yeongjo. The brushwork appears to be that of King Yeongjo himself, and the screen consists of ten panels in all. The characters are written not in ink but in gold powder. In Korea, from as early as the Goryeo period onward, it was common in every era to transcribe the Juseomuilpyeon chapter onto folding screens. This screen is a transcription of the Juseomuilpyeon chapter of the Classic of History; although its date of production cannot be determined precisely for want of any record, it is in good condition. Written not in ink but in gold powder, and presumed to be in the hand of King Yeongjo, this old Joseon-period screen is considered a valuable resource for the study of calligraphic history, and its preservation value is regarded as high.
