Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese woodblocks were carved to print the poetry and prose, chronological biography, epitaph and other writings of Yi Cheon-gyeong (1538–1610), pen name Ilsindang, a Confucian scholar of the mid-Joseon period. His descendants compiled the collection, and it was published at Cheonggok Seowon in 1855, the sixth year of King Cheoljong. Yi Cheon-gyeong was a disciple of Nammyeong Jo Sik, and was also widely known for his filial conduct. The collection contains no particularly significant historical records, but it does include material that reveals the circumstances of the period, such as the chronological biography, a register recording his teachers, friends and other worthies of the age, and the epitaph. The preface was written by Yi Sang-ui of the Jaeryeong Yi clan, the postface by No Gwang-ri of Pungsan and by Yi U, and at the end of the book there is a publication note reading 'carved and published at Cheonggok Seowon in the early autumn of the eulmyo year'.
