Jinhaehyeon Government Office and Guest House Yuji, Changwon
창원 진해현 관아 및 객사유지 · 昌原 鎭海縣 官衙 및 客舍遺止

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBuilt in 1832, the thirty-second year of King Sunjo of Joseon, by Yi Yeong-mo, magistrate of Jinhae-hyeon, this was the government office where local administrative affairs were handled. Centred on the Dongheon, the main hall, it also comprised, to its left, the Guest House, which served as lodging for officials sent from the royal court; to its right, the Saryeongcheong, the office that issued and received military orders; and, to the front, subsidiary buildings including stables for horses and the Hyeongbangso, the office in charge of local criminal affairs. The Dongheon is a single-row building of seven bays across the front and three bays to the side, while the Guest House was a building of eleven bays across the front and three bays to the side; however, a fire in 1985 left only the platform foundation of the Guest House standing, and the Dongheon has been repaired on several occasions. The other buildings have been replaced by modern-style structures and no longer retain their original form, making it difficult to determine precisely where they once stood. Among government office complexes built in the late Joseon period, this is a rare example that retains most of its subsidiary buildings, and the layout, form and function of its buildings are of great value as material for research into architectural history.
