The border of each page of this book is enclosed by a single line on the top and bottom edges, with ten lines of nineteen characters per line. At the front of the book is a frontispiece illustration (byeonsangdo) bearing an inscription stating that it was drawn and carved onto woodblocks for circulation, sponsored by a person named Lady Jeong, to pray for the rebirth of King U of Goryeo in the Pure Land. This is followed by a commentary on the essential meaning of the Lotus Sutra written by the Song-dynasty monk Geupnam, and the main text carries grammatical particles (gugyeol) added in ink to aid reading and recitation of the Chinese original, together with marginal notes (duju) at the top of the page. Within the frontispiece illustration, the first leaf, depicting the guardian deity Wichoncheon (Skanda), has been lost and replaced with a photocopy, and areas of damage occur throughout, which have recently been relined for conservation.
