This is presumed to be a hugswae beongakbon (a later reprint recarved from an existing woodblock edition, using the original printed text as a model to recut new blocks) of the same edition as Treasure No. 766, the Lotus Sutra (Myobeop Yeonhwagyeong), volumes 4–7, a woodblock edition translated by Kumārajīva of the Later Qin and annotated by Gyegyeong of the Song, and carved and printed in 1448 at the vow of Grand Prince Inyeong and Grand Prince Anpyeong. As it follows exactly the layout and the style of the byeonsangdo (frontispiece illustration depicting scenes from the sutra) of Treasure No. 766, it appears to have been carved and printed before the Japanese invasions of 1592–1598. Of the original seven volumes, volumes 1 to 3 are bound as a single book, and the first leaf of the frontispiece illustration, depicting the image of Witaecheon (a guardian deity), has been lost and replaced with a photocopy. The text has deteriorated in places, and it has recently been backed (baejeop, a technique of reinforcing paper by pasting several layers of paper, cloth, or thin wooden boards onto the reverse). The border of the book is a sanghadanbyeon (a single line framing the top and bottom edges only), and each half-leaf has ten columns of text, with nineteen characters per column.
